I am beginning to think we are just touching the tip of the bad high school football announcer iceberg. Enjoy.

Mallett and Childs to Play, Adams to Sit
Posted by Brett Kincaid on October 29, 2010
Two of Arkansas’s biggest offensive weapons will be in uniform tomorrow night. Ryan Mallett and Greg Childs have both been cleared to play after suffering injuries last week against Mississippi. Unfortunately Joe Adams, perhaps the most electrifying Razorback, will have to sit after suffering an ankle injury last week.
Arkansas has Vandy on the schedule this weekend. Hopefully the Hogs can ice this game early, allowing Mallett and Childs even more time to rest before heading to South Carolina in a week.

NWC Report for 10/29/10
Posted by Jeff on October 29, 2010
Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan had a health scare this week. A blocked carotid artery is apparently not enough to slow him down.
Fayetteville’s city prosecutor will not seek to file hazing charges against the Phi Delta Theta members that are being sued by a former pledge but only because the statute of limitations is approaching.
The local Rally to Restore Sanity has announced its lineup of speakers. They include the 11 year old gay rights supporter from West Fork and Friend-of-BlogHawgs, Jon Williams. The rally is tomorrow.
Take a look at why this guy was headed out with a gun and accidentally shot a twelve year old.
And then there’s the guy who left his bomb at the drug store after he burglarized it?
Someone created a fake Facebook page to harass a Van Buren mother who is accused of stealing money from a high school account.

"It's just a jump to the left." You can blame me if you have the Time Warp stuck in your head for a few days.
This back-in parking stuff in Fayetteville might be close to over…
Finally a local merchant on Dickson street has come up with a way to cool the burn of paid parking.
The UofA is showing the Rocky Horror Picture Show tonight.

Game Day
The UofA Band is going to lead the entire stadium in Michael Jackson’s Thriller Dance. They have done it before (it starts at about the 1:23 mark) but this year they made an instructional video for fans.
Knile Davis had a big week last week. Not that you didn’t already know why.

BlogHawgs Bad Announcing Hall of Fame–”I’ll Fight Any One of You (in the Pressbox) Edition
Posted by Adam Butler on October 28, 2010
Florida Athletic color man Dave Lamont lost his mind last week in Jonesboro when FAU took on Arkansas State. I can’t decide what’s better–the part when he bangs his fists and yells “He’s Defenseless!, He’s Defenseless!” or when he threatened to fight anyone in the press box who wanted to go. Hey, at least he admitted he melted down. Until then he sounded like he had gotten his hands on some good ‘ole NEA bathtub meth.

Notre Dame Student Tweeted Dying Declarations Before He Fell to His Death Filming a Fighting Irish Practice?
Posted by Adam Butler on October 28, 2010
The sad story of the death of Declan Sullivan, a 20-year old Notre Dame Student who fell from the top of a camera “scissor” tower to his death during 50-60 mile per hour winds, continues to unfold.
Apparently at least one person–Sullivan–knew that he had no business being on that tower, and, per The Huffington Post said as much via his Twitter account.
In the first message, timestamped 3:22 p.m., Sullivan wrote, “Gust of wind up to 60mph well today will be fun at work… I guess I’ve lived long enough :-/.”
The second message, which was sent at 4:06 p.m., less than an hour before his tragic fall at 4:50 p.m., reads, “Holy f*** holy f*** this is terrifying.”
Meanwhile, OSHA is investigating the incident. One would expect Notre Dame will spend a lot of dollars to make a potential lawsuit to go away quickly and quietly. Unfortunately, nothing will bring this kid back. Sad.

BlogHawgs Week 9 Pick ‘em
Posted by Brett Kincaid on October 28, 2010
Last week was eerily similar to the Arkansas-Alabama game for me and my picks. I jumped out to a big lead, and it looked like I was finally going to win a statement game. Things broke right, especially in the Mich St. v. Northwestern game. Everything was falling into place.
Then the bottom fell out. Tennessee, Kentucky, Washington, and Oklahoma all laid enormous eggs, and I ultimately paid the price. Much like Ryan Mallett, I’m focusing on the good things that happened while trying to figure out how I let it slip away in the fourth quarter. This is shaping up like the massacre of 2001, a year I never hoped to repeat.
Meanwhile, Adam continues to roll up pick after pick this year. If you’re betting with Adam, you’re making money.

Arkansas to Announce Football Facilities Renovations, Today
Posted by Adam Butler on October 27, 2010
at an afternoon press conference. I am not sure why the lockerrooms and coaches’ office weren’t a part of the last renovation to Reynolds Razorback Stadium–almost a decade ago.
The renovations should boost recruiting now and in the future. This is good news considering recruiting is already going as well as it has at this point in a season in quite some time. I will try to remember this when I have to pay the increased ticket and donation prices for next season.
UA Defensive Lineman Arrested
Posted by Adam Butler on October 27, 2010
Dequinta “D.D.” Jones was arrested this morning in Fayetteville for possession of a controlled substance (reportedly approximately a 1/4 bag of marijuana).
Depending upon the facts and Jones history, it could be charged as a felony.
But, as long as he doesn’t have a prior possession conviction, and there aren’t facts suggesting he possessed it with intent to deliver (ie large amount of cash, lots of baggies, scales, etc.), my guess–and that’s all it can be without the facts–is that he will be charged with an A Misdemeanor, which carries a possible punishment of one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. (but for which probation is a very common result).

On Mallett & The Potential NFL Lockout
Posted by Adam Butler on October 26, 2010
Pete Fiutak at College Football News ponders the possibility of the biggest (underclassmen) stars in College Football coming back to school if the potential NFL lockout comes to pass in 2011.
It isn’t going to happen–there is just too much money out there for the NFLPA and the NFL Owners to allow a work stoppage.
But, it would definitely be interesting.

BlogHawgs Heisman 5+1 Update 10/26/10
Posted by Adam Butler on October 26, 2010
Special to BlogHawgs.com from Kris Boyd
Cam Newton seems to be your Heisman Trophy winner. The +1 doesn’t even think a loss to Alabama can derail the Cam Express. Two QB’s jumped back on the list with outstanding wins over good opponents. Justin Blackmon could break just about every receiving record. It is also noteworthy that Robert Griffin will single-handedly take Baylor (yes, Baylor!) to a Bowl.
1. Cam Newton, QB, Auburn-For Tebow so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son…
2. LaMichael James, RB, Oregon-James didn’t put up his usual eye-popping numbers in a rout of UCLA last Thursday. Although, he probably would have put up more than 150 combined yards had it not been a rout.
3. Taylor Martinez, QB, Nebraska-Question. Is throwing for over 300 yards with 5 touchdowns and rushing for over 100 yards against a top 25 team a good thing? Yeah, there is a reason Oklahoma State is spelled with any “D’s”, but Taylor had one of the more impressive games by anyone all year long.
4. Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri-The +1 has been high on Gabbert for a while. Leading your team to a win over the #1 (albeit overrated) team in the nation jumps you up onto our list. Gabbert can make any throw and might very well lead the Tigers to an undefeated season.
5. Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State-Blackmon only had 5 receptions for 157 yards and two touchdowns against a good defense. Blackmon is still on pace for over 2k yards and 24 TD’s. Blackmon might be the first WR to be invited to New York since Randy Moss.
+1. Robert Griffin

Select 17 – Week 9
Posted by Brett Kincaid on October 25, 2010
Another week, another team tops the national polls and/or the BCS rankings. Here at BlogHawgs.com we are a bit more stable. Oregon retains the #1 ranking thanks to its dominant performance against UCLA on Thursday night. Boise St. – who had the weekend off – drops one spot in favor of Auburn, a group that looks to be making a serious run at perfection this year. And despite the majority of voters having a lot of love for the BCS schools, there are 2 non-AQ teams in the top four and 3 in the top 9 of our poll. The biggest takeaway from that: Winning matters most.
Auburn and Oregon both have big tests this week, and Missouri has to get it together before heading to Lincoln to take on a Nebraska team that rarely looses to the Show Me Tigers.
| Rank | Team | Points | LW |
| 1 | Oregon (5) | 133 | 1 |
| 2 | Auburn (2) | 128 | 5 |
| 3 | Boise St. (1) | 118 | 2 |
| 4 | TCU | 107 | 4 |
| 5 | Michigan St. | 101 | 7 |
| 6 | Alabama | 99 | 6 |
| 7 | Missouri | 87 | NR |
| 8 | Wisconsin | 81 | 9 |
| 9 | Utah | 70 | 10 |
| 10 | Ohio St. | 66 | 11 |
| 11 | Stanford | 49 | 13 |
| 12 | Oklahoma | 43 | 3 |
| 13 | Nebraska | 42 | 14 |
| 14 | LSU | 31 | 8 |
| 15 | Arizona | 28 | 17 |
| 16 | Florida St. | 17 | 16 |
| 17 | Iowa | 12 | 12 |
Others receiving votes: Arkansas 9, Oklahoma St. 3

Revolving ‘Dores: Vanderbilt Changes Offensive Coordinators
Posted by Adam Butler on October 25, 2010
Arkansas’ next opponent, Vanderbilt, will have a new play-caller (32-year old running backs coach Des Kitchings) Saturday when it takes on the Hogs in Fayetteville. Unless the ’Dores can also trade QBs and receivers with the Hogs, I don’t think this move will have much impact.

Former UA Great Darren McFadden Silencing His Critics
Posted by Adam Butler on October 25, 2010
Just when I–maybe Darren McFadden’s number-one fan–was even beginning to become frustrated with his nagging injuries–DMAC had a career day yesterday.
McFadden exploded for 4 Touchdowns and 196 all-purpose yards (165 on the ground) in a historic 59-14 drubbing of the Denver Broncos.
It’s too bad McFadden missed the last few games with a hamstring injury. But for that, he would probably be at our near the top of just about every NFL rushing stat.
McFadden is currently second in the league in yards per game (111.4 YPG) behind the Vikings’ Adrian Peterson (114 YPG) (Peterson has 39 more carries than McFadden on the season and just 127 more yards)
And, McFadden is averaging 5.5 yards per carry as compared the 3.8 YPC from his backup, Michael Bush, who many tabbed as the better of the two. Not so fast, my friends. I am talking to you Bill Simmons.

Arkansas Wide Receiver Joe Adams Honored
Posted by Adam Butler on October 25, 2010
As SEC Special Teams Player of the Week after setting a school record with a 97-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Auburn’s Cam Newton was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week after shredding the LSU defense.
Remember last week when we were irrational enough to suggest that Auburn’s offense might just be very dynamic, and Arkansas’ defense, while not great, might not be nearly as bad as disgruntled Hog fans think?
Did you see all the “spectating” and arm-tackling LSU’s defense did on Saturday versus Newton?
Newton may be the most amazing athlete I have seen in awhile. The Heisman (and the National Title) is his to lose.

That Shiloh Coach a Candidate to be the Next Colorado Head Coach?
Posted by Adam Butler on October 25, 2010
The timing of this article is interesting because BK and I had a “spirited” debate this weekend on this issue. Actually, the debate was not about whether Colorado would offer their head coaching job to That Shiloh Coach, but whether That Shiloh Coach would even take it, if offered.
They would never admit it, but I really think That Shiloh Coach’s followers feel like he is above a job like Colorado at this point and feel that he should bide his time and wait for something better. I know. That’s crazy. But I think I am right. Whether it’s Colorado or another gig, we’ll find out soon enough.

National Punditry Projection – Arkansas v. Mississippi
Posted by Brett Kincaid on October 22, 2010
This week’s matchup features two teams that are trying to establish an identity for their 2010 campaign. For Arkansas, the Hogs need a kick-start to the second half of the season. Bobby Petrino’s crew needs to catch fire just to have a long shot chance to make the SEC Championship Game. While Atlanta appears to be out of reach, Orlando is not. Reeling off 6 wins in a row puts Arkansas in the drivers seat for the Capital One Bowl and potentially a BCS berth if other teams falter. None of that will happen, though, if Arkansas cannot shake off last week and beat an inferior Mississippi Black Bear Rebel squad.
For the Team from East of The River, the season was near disaster before they righted the ship against Kentucky. After losing to FCS Jacksonville State and lowly Vanderbilt, the Mississippi coach was able to pull his troops together and save the season. They played reasonably well at Alabama last week and appear to be figuring things out on offense. The defense is not as good as many projected, but they are good enough to win in this two-chinstrap league. Losing on Saturday means Mississippi will be fighting for bowl eligibility for the rest of the season. A win could propel the Rebel Black Bears to a big second half and bowl game anywhere from Atlanta to Tampa.
Here is a taste of the national mood on this game:
What Will Happen: Auburn might have ripped through the Arkansas defense last week, but the Hogs are better than that. The Rebel running game will sputter a bit and Arkansas will get up early and coast in the second half. Ole Miss won’t be able to rally back with the passing game.
CFN Prediction: Arkansas 38 … Ole Miss 20 … Line: Arkansas -10
Arkansas 38, Ole Miss 28: The Houston Nutt Bowl III doesn’t have quite the drama the first two did. It’s sort of become old hat now, although I’m not sure Nutt and Arkansas’ Bobby Petrino are exactly pen pals. Nutt has yet to lose to the Hogs since he left, but this will be the best Arkansas team he’s faced. In the end, the Rebels won’t be able to slow down the Hogs defensively.
THE BUZZ: Arkansas QB Ryan Mallett suffered a concussion in last week’s loss to Auburn, but he could play against the Rebels. Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt is 2-0 against his former employer.
THE LINE: Arkansas by 10 THE PICK: Arkansas 35-20
Oddsmakers have been holding off on setting a point spread until the condition of Mallett is known – he did return to practice Tuesday – but we’re confident that Wilson can get the job done at home if handed the ball. Opening point spread: Arkansas by 9.5
Pick: Arkansas 27-17
