Mallett Slides after Week One

Posted by Brett Kincaid on September 7, 2010

Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett is ranked #6 in this week’s HeismanPundit.com poll.  Despite his stellar performance last week, Mallett actually dropped a spot.  Chalk that up to the fact that very few people outside the state could 1) confirm Arkansas actually played this week or 2) name the team the Hogs defeated.

This will be a fun game all year.  Everyone knows his big game is in 11 days when the Hogs head to Georgia.

Given the debate that has raged today on this board, I’m sure none of you will be happy to know that Kellen Moore is the leader after Week 1 in this tracking poll.  He and Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor are the clear leaders.  According to one voter, it’s Kellan’s (as Brent Mussberger would call him) to lose.

“That was one of the most memorable opening-day performances in college football history.  In one week, Kellen Moore has become the clear Heisman favorite. He is the little quarterback for the little team that could.” — Mike Bianchi, Orlando Sentinel.

He led a clutch, late 2 minte drive but he was 23-38 for 214 yards 3TDs and no Ints. That’s one of the most memorable opening game performances in college football history? HISTORY??? Hahaha. Holy Hyperbole, Batman.

Bianchi has spent 4 years gushing over College Football Baby Jesus, though, so I shouldn’t be suprised.

The panel includes Mike Bianchi who stated that (on multiple occasions) that Tebow was the greatest football player, college, pro or otherwise, that has ever played the game and Jenni Carlson?!?!?! Jenni Carlson… the chick who I used to gripe about because she would compare the “sexiness” of teams to the “sexiness” of male celebrity body parts… including Brad Pitt’s crotch?!?!?! The chick who got Gundy to emit his “I’m a man, I’m 40!” because she wrote an article attacking their QB and his close relationship with his mother and siblings?!?!?!

That tells me all I need to know about that panel.

That being said, except for Moore being #1, I kind of agree (with a few tweaks) with the rest of it.

FWIW, Mallett’s #2 on SI.com and #3 on ESPN. Moore is the leader on both.

Here’s another H-Man site I like. The guy actually uses some big formula to predict the outcome as the season progresses. He’s remarkably accurate:
