One for the Road

Posted by Brett Kincaid on July 8, 2010

Pic added by AB. I couldn't resist.

I may actually be a Cleveland fan.  This right here makes me want to go buy a freakin’ jersey.  Of course, I’d buy the old school Craig Ehlo jersey.

This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown “chosen one” sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And “who” we would want them to grow-up to become.

But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called “curse” on Cleveland, Ohio.

UPDATED: Gilbert is still firing. In an interview with the Associated Press he added these nuggets:

“He quit. Not just in Game 5, but in Games 2, 4 and 6. Watch the tape. The Boston series was unlike anything in the history of sports for a superstar.”

and another:

“LeBron James needs to go to another team with two superstars already so he can win a championship. We will win a championship before [the Heat] do.”

The Mississippi Coach and the Best Picture Ever

Posted by Adam Butler on July 8, 2010

A picture really does say 1,000 words. And no, I don’t think this is Photo-Shopped. Would any other Head Coach at a BCS Conference School be caught dead posing with an Elvis impersonator on the Walk of Fame, much less while wearing David Caruso CSI Miami Shades (again) and a Don Ho Hawaian Shirt, standing on Michael Jackson’s star and throwing a “Peace” sign. I mean, anyone? Even Les Miles? I don’t think so.

The Butler Did It–Cleveland (Hits the) Rocks Edition

Posted by Adam Butler on July 8, 2010

Cleveland Fans are Crying--Again.

I couldn’t agree more with BK about Lebron James’ decision to go to Miami (and the way he announced it). A couple of other (bullet) points:

–The more that comes out, the more contrived it all seems. Dan Lebatard (Miami columnist and ESPN head) just said on TV he thinks the last 10 days were a sham.

–Spare me the emerging ”they were are all unselfish and took less money” angle. (Thank you, ESPN’s John Anderson for FINALLY sort of saying it)  This was to a degree about playing together and being Thelma, Louise & Brad Pitt, but it was also about branding. Even if he left $30mill on the table in terms of a contract (and he didn’t), he (and Wade and Bosh) all became much more famous and richer. His stated goal is to be a billionaire and he took great steps toward that this month.

–The Boys & Girls Clubs of Akron and Cleveland should reject the contrived, insincere donation from Lebron. It would be AWESOME and they would get tons more in donations from around the country. I’ve got 5 on it. Who’s with me?

–I think this has been the only scenario under which I root for Kobe. Ever. For anything. I will root for Kobe, D Fish, the effeminate Spaniard and the crazy as an outhouse rat Ron Artest over Lebron, DWade, Predator 7 and 9 NBDLers.

–My cousin Blake and I were talking and decided he broke up with his girlfriend in front of the whole class and told her how lucky she was to have had him for 7 yrs.

–Lebron could have learned a thing from Kevin Durant and signed with Miami quickly, and quietly. Oh, and he could have had the decency to call the guy who signed his checks for 7 years and let him know what was going to happen.

–Does a championship mean as much when you had to go fantasy basketball to get it (if they do-no given). What’s more competitive-finishing what you started or winning a ring with a fantasy basketball team?  That said, I don’t have a problem with him going to Miami. It’s the way he did it that bothers me. Totally uncalled for. Totally.

LeBron Jersey on Fire Outside an Akron Bar

I refused to watch the frivolity that was the LeBron James Selection Show.  In fact, I refused to engage in any discussion about the subject all day.  LeBron James, who does not deserve to share the nickname as one of our most significant Presidents, proved today that his ego is by far the most important thing in his life.

As many of you know, I do not like, follow, or at all concern myself with the NBA outside of SportsCenter highlights and a ridiculous fantasy league that I have never won.  That will likely change next season, as I will spend the bulk of my time rooting against Miami and for a significant injury to the King of Brats.

You see, I have no issue with the man finding a better deal.  We all do that when we have the opportunity to improve our lives.  What is unforgivable to me is the manner in which it was done.  What did he gain by doing this?  All LeBron James did was make this transition yet another loss in a history of gut-punch losses for Cleveland sports fans.

UPDATE:  And now there are reports that Queen James did not have the sack to call Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert to inform him of his decision.
