South Park Takes on Islam Again

Posted by Jeff on April 19, 2010

What do these guys have in common with Salman Rushdie?

***UPDATE***

Revolutionmuslim.com now says their post was a call for protest not for violence.  By the way, one of the founders of this group last year said the 9/11 attacks were justified.  I tried to go to their site myself to see what it said but could not get it to pull up.

South Park is celebrating its 200th episode by again pushing the limits of the Islam ban on showing images of the prophet Mohammed. In the episode the prophet is shown at the end in a bear costume. Apparently the website Revolutionmuslim.com is insinuating that Trey Parker and Matt Stone may need to watch their backs.

While looking at this I also came across the video below from an organization called Boing Boing. In the interview, Stone mentions that they have drawn Mohammed before in Seaon 5.

I have not watched this show regularly since season two or three. But I will say this. They seem to be equal opportunity in their attacks on celebrities, politicians, and religion. If I recall correctly, it was their skewering of Scientology that pushed Isaac Hayes (voice of Chef) off the payroll before he passed away.

Big Ten Expansion Ramping Up?

Posted by Jeff on April 19, 2010

Dennis Dodd is reporting on CBS Sports that the possible expansion of the Big 10 might include 3 to 5 more teams. Everyone knows that Notre Dame would be the best addition for football purposes. We also know that unless NBC dumps the Irish’s TV contract, that is unlikely to happen.

I'll take two, please. UConn & Syracuse would be nice.

The intriguing thing to me in this is the suggestion that the expansion would like to tap into the New York media market. Connecticut, Rutgers, and Syracuse are all mentioned as possible future Big Ten teams.  Besides improving the Big 10′s exposure in the country’s largest TV market, this would also dramatically improve the league’s basketball status.  With the exception of Michigan State, the Big 10 hasn’t produced much of anything on the hardcourt since Michigan in the late 80′s and Bobby Knight’s Indiana.

Forget Kanye’s “Blame it on the Alcohol”.

Posted by Adam Butler on April 19, 2010

Journeyman pitcher Chan Ho Park says “Blame it on the Diarrhea”. Seriously.  And, I love that he is so matter-of-fact about it and seems puzzled by the reporters thinking it’s funny.

Does this work in other professions? Sorry, boss, I couldn’t get those TPS Reports out. I had the diarrhea.

Get Involved–Support the National Multiple Sclerosis Society

Posted by Adam Butler on April 19, 2010

The MS Walks were completed on the 17th, but you can still contribute. Here’s the link.

UPDATE:

Thanks for posting this, AB.

Many of you know that MS is a disease that I have endured for quite some time.  I am blessed in that I have the relapsing / remitting type of MS. Many others do not and their symptoms are much worse than mine.

Adam and I joke about our One-Disease common thread but when it comes to organizations like the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and United Cerebral Palsy, we like to get serious.  Both of these organizations do good and they deserve our support.

Thanks.  -Jeff

Remembering Hawg Ball XV–Strollin’ With Nolan.

Posted by Adam Butler on April 19, 2010

I have to admit, this one almost brought a tear to my eye.

Even Cheryl Miller as the color commentator couldn’t ruin this classic.  It’s all good, but the fun starts at approximately 6:30.  Say want you want about Nolan’s decision to walk out (and then come back) but it took some real stones.
