Predictions for Sunday:
Best Picture: Only two of the ten nominated movies (Avatar and The Hurt Locker) have a real shot at bringing home the big prize, although handicappers agree that a third film, Up in the Air, has a very outside chance of pulling the upset. So if anyone was planning on watching the Oscars to see if The Blind Side would win best picture, don’t bother. The only reason there are ten nominees this year instead of five is so that films like The Blind Side (lovable and decent films that appeal to the masses but have no shot at winning anything outside of the People’s Choice Awards) could get nominated. Why? So people will watch. And if you don’t believe me…watch.
Best Director: Again, Katherine Bigelow or James Cameron are likely to win, but Quentin Tarantino also has a decent shot, not because Inglorious Basterds was the best-made film this year or even close to Tarantino’s very best, but because way back in 1994 Tarantino suffered one of movie history’s greatest snubs when Pulp Fiction lost to Forrest Frieking Gump in both Best Picture and Best Director. So he’s due. Oscar loves to do this, snub an artist’s masterpiece, then ten years later when said masterpiece is cemented in history as a masterpiece and Oscar is feeling guilty or stupid, reward the artist for inferior work (as in Pacino winning best actor for Scent of a Woman instead of The Godfather II).
Tiger Woods Should Send Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger

Before anyone complains, I am not comparing the allegations against Woods with the allegations against “Ben”. Just saying the latter should probably just go ahead and change his initials to “TMZ”, now…..and every minute they are covering him, they aren’t covering Tiger.
