Arkansas Football Recruiting in 2010–Is Route 66 the Road to the BCS?

Posted by Adam Butler on February 3, 2010

While Arkansas’ Recruiting class is going to finish in the 30s or 40s nationally and somewhere in the lower half of the cutthroat SEC, they signed a ton of good defensive lineman (1 service has their DL class as the 3rd best in the nation).

But, they made some real hay in Oklahoma, signing 5 of the Sooner State’s Top 20 players.  Of those 5–Calvin Barnett, Eric Bennett, Jarrett Lake, Courtney Gaston & Denton Simek (in order of ranking) 3–Barnett, Bennett and Lake–are from Tulsa and had offers from Oklahoma.

Four of the 5 bring some much-needed jelp to the defense. Simek is an offensive lineman.

Good job by Offensive coordinator and recruiting rainmaker Garrick McGee.

Good needs based recruiting. Once all the needs are filed and ASSuMEing we have a great year this year recruiting should start to be more of a reloading process in the future. Shouldn’t it?

I think so,at least moreso than it is now. Arkansas’ recruiting should be better next year simply because the in-state talent is supposed to be a lot better and they should be recruiting off of a betteryear and more publicity, with Mallett.

They have a commitment from Brandon Allen, the Fayetteville QB (and Bobby Allen’s son)and they offered a big lineman from Bentonville (scouting report….chances of landing him, Jeff?)

Marcus Danenhauer is the Bentonville O Lineman that got an offer. His brother played at Tulsa. He is coached by Benji Mahan (former Hog). Marcus is very good. He has started on the line every game since his sophomore year. Bentonville does not start many sophomores.

I may have known who Benji Mahan was prior to November 1998, but I can’t say that I do, now. That portion ofmy brain has been permanently eradicated. Thanks for the info, though.

Eradicated by choice or by malted hops?

Because I could understand either reason in this case.
