Remembering Hawg Ball X–Defending Champs vs. UK And Its Indefensible Uniforms

Posted by Adam Butler on January 22, 2010

The Scene: Bud Walton Arena….still a virtual infant….Super Bowl Sunday, Defending National Champs versus Kentucky, in indefensible uniforms…..it was the first game my 15-year old brother attended in person.  I swung the ticket for him in the student section. Safe to say it was a good day.

I would like to see the dunk Corlis had on Mashburn his freshman year.

Me, too. I used to have it recorded, but I think my dad taped over it to record one of my brother’s AAU scrimmage games.

This was the game in which Al Dillard gave Blair and I tickets to.

Also, did you notice Reggie Garrett getting clutch PT? One thing that goes unnoticed about the last 5 years of Nolan’s career is large amount of top notch talent that (for whatever reason) never panned out. Reggie Garrett, Chris Jeffries, Jessie Pate, Sunday Adebayo, Antwan Hall (Twantum Leap), Marlon Towns, etc. and that is just off the top of my head.

Um, you just named the “420″ fan club. I think there’s a reason those guys didn’t pan out.

      Garrett–criminal problems, I believe.

Jeffries–Cali dude who got more homesick the worse our program became. Had a cup of coffee in the NBA.

Pate–BS NCAA ruling that, in tandem with the protracted investigation that they later said rendered an incorrect result, was the key factor leading to the downfall of a once-proud program.

Adebayo–see Pate, above. Although he did prove that miracles do happen–for a bit I actually rooted for a Memphis St. player.

Hall–I think “we” know what his problem was.

Townes–Got as big as a few Townes.

Yes, Reggie Garrett transferred to OKC and played there. I saw him in a picture while I was there.

Chris Jeffries played a great in probably my favorite game I ever attended in Bud Walton… vs. Auburn. Sitting with Adam. Jeffries dunked on the entire Auburn team and even their bench if I remember correctly.
