Or, was it a “hanging chad”? It depends on University of Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long’s definition of “reasonable” time, I suppose.
I have said it many times before, and I’ll say it again–Long isn’t going to tip his hand regarding Pelphrey’s job security–he would be crazy to do so.
Long, the man who would sell the naming rights to the oxygen inside Reynolds Razorback Stadium if he could (cue the ever-present, eardrum-shattering Pig Screen Behemoth Commercial Machine and Occasion Replay Provider, which brings us classic audio like ”Does your throat feel like ASSphalt?). He did tip his hand regarding ticket prices, though. They’re likely (READ: Definitely)going up.
You see, Long doesn’t see things in black and white. He sees them in terms of Green or not Green…..as in, something is a potential revenue stream, or it isn’t. And, the current company line is that Bud Walton isn’t good enough to attract quality recruits. To do so, Long thinks they need a new state-of-the-art practice facility, and a new football lockerroom while we’re at it, poor economy be damned.
So, if you think anything has been determined regarding Pelphrey that can’t be changed in the blink of another 2-14 SEC performance and a noticeably unoccupied seat or 12,000 in Bud Walton Arena at season’s end, then you’ll believe anything you see on the Commercial Machine.
