Media Drama Prior To Lane Kiffin Press Conference.

I don’t know why, but I was enthralled by this.

That really calm dude sitting in the chair and texting is ESPN SEC blogger, and former Vols beat writer, Cris Low (I frequently link to his articles).  No wonder he is so solid. Calm. Good listeners.  Some of the others? Not so much.

It’s Howdy Dooley Time

Posted by Brett Kincaid on January 15, 2010

After a crazy week on Rocky Top, Tennessee is set to announce its new head coach.  Derek Dooley, son of famed Georgia coach Vince Dooley, is leaving Louisiana Tech for Tennessee.  Reports indicate he will take as many as 3 staffers from Ruston with him.  Interim Volunteer coach Kippy Brown will most certainly stay on the staff, possibly as the team’s running backs coach.

Dooley brings a defensive background to Tennessee.  He was able to find moderate success in Ruston, although the Bulldogs did not quite live up to expectations this past season.  His signature win with the program is likely the road victory over Mississippi State in 2008.

UPDATE:  Reports now suggest the deal is not done.  Houston’s Kevin Sumlin, who reportedly signed a 3-year contract extension last night, may still be in the mix.
