Arkansas Offensive Line Coach Search–UPDATED

Posted by Adam Butler on January 14, 2010

Football Scoop is reporting it’s Nevada Offensive Coordinator Chris Klenakis, and it’s a done deal.

Arkansas: We have been told that it’s a done deal with Chris Klenakis (Nevada OC / offensive line coach) going to Arkansas.

Chris Klenakis Bio

earlier from Football Scoop (pretty good site).

Arkansas: Our sources tell us Petrino has narrowed the offensive line job to Chris Klenakis (Nevada OC / OL), Steve Shankweiler (East Carolina), a coach that recently accepted position at another school, and one other coach that we were not able to confirm.

Did we enter into some kind of exclusive agreement with the Nevada Coaches Named Chris or KrisDifficult to Pronounce Surnames Association?  If we hire Klenakis to go with the recently hired (former UNLV assistant) Kris Cinkovich I will really have to wonder.

Also of note on the link, Skip Holtz if leaving ECU to take the South Florida job.  I guess ECU isn’t quite as big time as it’s suprisingly obnoxious fans thought.

Texas Defensive Coordinator Will Muschamp Has

Posted by Adam Butler on January 14, 2010

reportedly rejected a big offer to become the next head coach at Tennessee.  And, the Vols’ have apparently turned to Duke Head Coach David Cutcliffe (former Mississippi head coach and longtime Tennessee offensive cordinator under Phil Fulmer during the Peyton Manning years)

A couple of things: Cutcliffe is a very solid choice.  He has done solid jobs with college football also-rans Mississippi and Duke. More importantly, though, he is part of the Tennessee family, and VolNation just get crammed on by a mouthy, punk that walks around with an undeserved sense of entitlement.  I expect they’ll settle on Cutcliffe, and he’ll accept, quickly.

One has to wonder what Muschamp is waiting on, here.  Is he overplaying his hand?  There aren’t a ton of better jobs that are going to be available to a guy who, for all he has accomplished, has still never been a head coach.  And don’t fool yourself about the Texas “Coach in Waiting” thing.  Mack isn’t going anywhere for awhile, as long his heart doesn’t go Urban on him.
