Congrats to Kansas and Turner Gill
Posted by Adam Butler on December 13, 2009
Gill is the new JayHawks Coach, and the Mississippi Coach isn’t. That’s a win-win for the Rock Chalkers.

Arkansas Season Wrap Up
Posted by Adam Butler on December 10, 2009
By ESPN’s Chris Low. I disagree with him. The ones that stick with me are Florida (robbed of chance to beat #1 on the road) and Georgia (we were the better team and melted down).

Tell Ya Momma (I’m From Arkansas)
Posted by Adam Butler on December 10, 2009
I love it when kids get creative. This is obviously a spoof video. Now, my age is catching up with me, because I am not sure if it’s spoofing the 2nd video. If not, it should be. Oh and NSFW….especially the 2nd one. Neither one is as good as the the DMac song by MC Bom, J-Boo, JC Disco and Ghost Writa…..but the 2nd one does drop DMac and JT references like Bom’s ’07 smash hit (3rd video below).

Slow Day
Posted by Brett Kincaid on December 9, 2009
Sorry ’bout that, folks. Thankfully it rarely happens, but both Adam and I had a busy day. One thing of note, though, is the coming showdown between the Pulaski County Special School District and its teachers. The District decided yesterday that they would no longer recognize the teachers’ union for purposes of collective bargaining. The link takes you to the Arkansas Times for complete coverage, thanks in large part to Fox 16′s David Goins.
They then announced a 2% pay raise across the board to teachers and support staff.
Late this afternoon, the Pulaski Association of Classroom Teachers announced they would have a 1-day walkout on Thursday (tomorrow) in protest.

ESPN’s Chris Low Wraps Up the SEC Season.

I couldn’t agree more with his Newcomer of the Year and Disappointment of the Year. Now, the Coaches’ All-SEC team? I have some issues, there. Tebow unanimous? Julio Jones over Greg Childs and Joe Adams. Child, please.

Tiger News
Posted by Brett Kincaid on December 8, 2009
Pepsico has announced that is will drop the new product line for Gatorade featuring Tiger Woods. This looks to be the beginning of the end for Tiger’s endorsements, at least until this storm passes. Of course Pepsico claims it has nothing to do with his PR problems.
This comes on the heels of the revelation that no ads featuring Tiger Woods have aired in prime time since the details of his numerous affairs became public. Despite this fact, no one has officially dropped Tiger as its spokesperson at this point.
Oh, and Tiger’s current mother-in-law (how much longer can we call her that?) was rushed to the hospital last night. She has been treated and released.
One more thing… Tiger’s wife allegedly bought a mansion in Sweeden a couple of weeks ago.

Worst Kept Secret in the World
Posted by Brett Kincaid on December 8, 2009
Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong appears to be headed to Lousiville. This has been rumored for a while. According to the ESPN.com report the school has a press conference set for Wednesday afternoon. Strong has long been considered a prime head coaching prospect only to be passed over routinely for BCS-level jobs. This move would make Strong the only African-American head coach at a BCS conference outside of Randy Shannon at Miami.
This will provide another challenge for Florida head coach Urban Meyer. This will mean he has lost his offensive and defensive coordinators in consecutive seasons. Dan Mullen left last year for Mississippi State, and the Gator offense fell far from its proficiency in 2008. Of course losing Percy Harvin may have had something to do with that, too.
This is great news for Strong…and the SEC.

Nuttin’ but Done?
Posted by Brett Kincaid on December 8, 2009
Mississippi head football coach Houston Nutt issued this non-denial denial of his interest in the Kansas head coaching job. If this turns out to be an actual denial, I suspect a new Nutt contract will be announced soon. This would play into his MO given his history at Arkansas.
Ole Miss is a great university and the quality of life in Oxford is the envy of others.
In perhaps the most striking part of this statement, one has to wonder if Oxford is being compared to other places in general — or just other places in Mississippi. While I’m sure it is the jewel of Mississippi, I can think of many other places I would rather live — with Fayetteville high on that list.
And, seriously, I think when you call “Ole Miss a great university” you really water-down the meaning of the word “great,” don’t you?

When it Rains, it Pours…..on Tiger.
Posted by Adam Butler on December 15, 2009
I have to admit that when Tiger bulked up years ago, I wondered about this. I never understood why it was always brushed aside because he plays an individual recreational activity. He certainly stood to gain a lot from the creation of his brand.
