I mean, if Hog basketball keeps slipping crashing, I can see us playing lots of games in venues like this, but Big Blue? Weird.

Clausen Clocked
Posted by Brett Kincaid on November 24, 2009
I think you can all tell that we’re pretty serious fans. We love our Razorbacks, Cardinals (AB), Red Sox (BK), and Texans (BK), but
that love does have some reasonable bounds. For instance, I don’t ever see one of us punching the star player on our favorite team like some drunk Irish fan did to Jimmy Clausen.
Although Adam did once curse out Rick Sutcliffe.

Not so fast, my friend…
Posted by Brett Kincaid on November 24, 2009
The good news is that the economy did grow in the third quarter. The bad news is that it did not grow as fast as analysts first expected.
The main factors behind the downgrade: consumers didn’t spend as much, commercial construction was weaker and the nation’s trade deficit was more of a drag on growth. Businesses also trimmed more of their stockpiles, another restraining factor.
I could have told you the same thing by looking at my bank account. These folks should just come to me for a read on the economy.

Changing the Topic
Posted by Brett Kincaid on November 24, 2009
In the first politically astute move we’ve seen from her in months, Sen. Blanche Lincoln is trying to turn the page from health care. Already locked in a brutal campaign against 7 eager GOP challengers (potentially 8 according to David Sanders — Jim Holt may re-enter the arena), Sen. Lincoln wants to focus on anything but health care.
In Little Rock to moderate a public hearing of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee, Arkansas’ senior Senator said the economy is her focus.
“Creating jobs, putting our economy back on the right track, is my No. 1 priority,” Lincoln, D-Ark., said at a field hearing of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee, which she chairs, at the Clinton presidential library.
Good luck with that, Senator.

Select 17 — Week 13
Posted by Brett Kincaid on November 23, 2009
As we head into the last week of “regular season” college football, things are very tight at the top. In fact, they’re as tight as possible. We have a tie at the #1 spot this week between Texas and Alabama, despite Bama receiving 4 first place votes to the Horns two. As you can tell, the voting among the top 3 teams is very jumbled, and TCU and Cincy are nipping at their heels.
Happy Thanksgiving
| 1 | Alabama (4) | 114 |
| 1 | Texas (2) | 114 |
| 3 | Florida (1) | 106 |

Nevermind that Tim Tebow Probably isn’t the Best QB in his Conference
Posted by Adam Butler on November 23, 2009
and he CERTAINLY hasn’t been the best player, regardless of the position, in the league this season (that would be Bama’s Mark Ingram, then arguably either UK’s Randall Cobb or Arkansas’ Ryan Mallett), the College Football Baby Jesus has been named a finalist for the Maxwell Award (for best all-around player in the nation) and Davey O’Brien Award (best QB in the nation)

Paul Petrino Not Going to WKU
Posted by Brett Kincaid on November 23, 2009
The Razorbacks offensive coordinator has withdrawn his name from consideration to be the head coach at Western Kentucky University. Petrino issued a statement today announcing his intent to stay at Arkansas.
I wondered when this first came out on Saturday: Isn’t the OC at a school like Arkansas a better job than head coach at a struggling team like Western Kentucky.

Five Thoughts, Arkansas Style
Posted by Brett Kincaid on November 23, 2009
The fine folks over at College Football News routinely publish their “Five Thoughts” column. I’ve always found these guys to be a step ahead of the national media, and once again they prove me right. Scroll down to the #2 “thought” in this week’s column. It’ll make all Hog fans giddy — assuming Mallett stays.
Arkansas is about where Ole Miss was this time last year, beginning to peak with a young team, a relatively new coach, and a transfer quarterback who’s already starting to get looks from NFL types. You might want to watch these guys closely in this week’s visit to Baton Rouge and the bowl game because if they can make any strides with a porous defense, they’re going to be a real trendy program in the offseason.

On Notre Dame vs. Arkansas in the Last 13 Seasons
Posted by Adam Butler on November 22, 2009
The ever arrogant (are we sure he isn’t a perfect fit there?) Notre Dame Coach, Charlie Weis, is no longer delusional about his job security. Now, if the Notre Dame fans could overcome their delusions of grandeur…..
That article got me thinking–How overrated has Notre Dame been since Lou Holtz left?
As of today, Notre Dame is 91-67 (playing a usually soft, service-academy laden schedule) in the last THIRTEEN years. ND will be on its fourth coach in that time span (technically 5th, as George O’Leary was hired in 2001, but resigned 5 days later amidst controversy regarding lies on his resume’) once they can Weis at season’s end.
That’s seven wins a season on average. The Irish also have ONE bowl win in that time. As a point of reference, Arkansas, who is nationally perceived as an also-ran by comparison to ND, has EXACTLY THE SAME RECORD AS NOTRE DAME IN THAT TIME FRAME–91-67–and has played, as a whole, much tougher schedules in the rugged SEC.
Also, assuming ND finishes 6-6 this season and actually accepts a bowl bid, Arkansas will either have one more, or the same number of bowl wins and bowl appearances the last 13 seasons. (Ironically, in that time span, ND declined an invitation to a bowl that it deemed unworthy of the Golden Domers’ presence).

Hilarious Wikipedia Entry for LSU Coach Les Miles
Posted by Adam Butler on November 22, 2009
can be found here. I think the natives are restless.
Leslie Edwin “Les” Miles (born November 10, 1953 in Elyria, Ohio) is an American college football coach and the current head coach of the Louisiana State University football team. Prior to holding that position, he was head coach at Oklahoma State. He was formerly an assistant at Oklahoma State University as well as with the University of Michigan, the University of Colorado and the Dallas Cowboys. To date, he is America’s first mentally handicapped man to coach at the collegiate level. Some believe that he was dropped on his head as a child.

Les (With More) Miles, Captain Clock or Pinnocchio?
Posted by Adam Butler on November 22, 2009
For those of you who missed the battle of Clock Mismanagement Giants, Houston Nutt, and Les Miles, it was one for the ages. More egregious than spiking the ball to end the game was allowing the clock to run from :27 to :09 before calling a timeout after a 3rd-down play. Luckily for the Mississippi coach, Leslie’s unbelievable blunders covered up a huge one by him–going for a 2-pt conversion (and failing) in the first half with his team trailing 17-15. The point he gave away almost came home to roost. This is the type of video that gets a coach, who already has his fair share of detractors, in big trouble.

UA Phi Delta Theta Chapter Under Investigation

after a pledge was hospitalized with a .68 BAC level. Wow. No wonder they “front tuck” their shirts and leave them untucked in the back. Tucking Anything is hard to do at .68…..including breathing.

He’s Still Coaching?
Posted by Brett Kincaid on November 20, 2009
Stan Heath still has a job…for the moment. It sounds like Coach Heath has
not been minding the store too closely in Tampa. I don’t know which is more embarrassing for him — his record or lack of knowledge about the alleged problems.
Heath, who is 23-41 and in his third season at USF, denied the allegations or said he had no knowledge of them.

NSFW Ole Miss Campus to be Site of KKK Rally Saturday?
Posted by Adam Butler on November 20, 2009
That’s the plan, if this is legit (and it appears to be)………as if the Mississippi coach doesn’t already have his hands full with LSU and explaining away another 4-loss season after being ranked in the Top 10. I hope/feel reasonably certain even Mississippi fans will renounce this.
