Not just that he was spared the death penalty, but that, per reports, the jury sentenced him to life without parole, meaning it did so unanimously. Had the jury hung in either direction, it would have advised Judge Piazza, who would then have had no choice but to sentence Vance to life without parole, as opposed to death.
may run for U.S. Senate as a Republican (even though he has formerly voted Democrat) and take on the embattled Blanche Lincoln (who Reed once supported)?
If so, that will be interesting. We might have the Dems privately rooting for the GOP candidate, and vice versa.
for murdering Little Rock TV anchor Anne Pressly. Here’s the update from the good folks at the Arkansas Times. I still think, given Vance’s past, at least one juror will be unable to sentence him to death. That said, this is the type of case that often ends with a death sentence.
from the good folks at the Arkansas Times. This is the part of the trial in which emotions (understandably) are going to be raw. I feel for everyone involved. It just so happened that last night Ms. Pressly’s family ate at the same restaurant that my wife, my law partner and his wife did last night.
Seeing them there, outside the courtroom, in the wake of the guilty verdict, just made me feel for them even more. They seemed somewhat relieved, but not celebratory. Regardless of the outcome of the trial, they have lost a loved forever.
As if we needed another reason to make fun of Alabama, apparently, it is the laziest state in America, boasting 3 of the Top 25 laziest cities. Oklahoma gave it a run for its money, but I won’t mention that since my wife is from the Tulsa area (#8).
Bama’s lazy dominance should not come as a suprise to anyone who has actually been to Alabama, or has seen it’s biggest fan, Big E (below), on youtube.
I guess they (ALLEGEDLY) took the recent Lil’ Wayne/Lane Kiffin street cred thing a little too far. At least they are already accustomed to wearing orange jumpsuits.
you read that right. And people wonder why they haven’t won a conference title since the passage of the Civil Rights Act? Have fun with this it recruiting, guys.
