Vance Trial Day 4

Posted by Adam Butler on November 5, 2009

no parking

I Know Parking near the Pulaski County Courthouse is bad, but.......

update from the good folks at the Arkansas Times.

Testimony didn’t begin until 10:15 a.m. because one juror had trouble finding a parking place near the courthouse (there’s a teacher curriculum meeting going on).

ESPN’s Chris Low Blogs About Razorback Joe Adams’

Posted by Adam Butler on November 5, 2009

joe adamsreturn from a stroke.  He’s right. In the midst of all the SEC ref controversy and sexual tension bickering between Lane Kiffen and Urban Meyer, Joe’s story has been overlooked, and that’s too bad.  It’s pretty amazing.

Damn Yankees

Posted by Brett Kincaid on November 5, 2009

Damn YankeesThe Evil Empire picked up its 27th World Series title last night, besting Philadelphia 7-3 in Game 6.  Despite only starting three of the six games, Hideki Matsui picked up the MVP instead of Mariano Rivera (who saved 2 games and closed out 2 others in non-save situations).  As if the Yankees were not offensive enough, they now enabled Alex Rodriguez to finally claim a championship ring.  As the kids say… FML.

To say that I hate the Yankees would be disrespectful to the word “hate”.  Sadly they really were the best team in baseball this year.  Derek Jeter turned in arguably his best season as a pro, Mo Rivera solidified his place in history as the game’s best closer of all time, and Andy Pettitte returned from HGH shame to deliver (again) in the post-season.

Here’s hoping they all get caught in a child porn ring this offseason.

House Approves, Votes Down Rule Changes

Posted by Brett Kincaid on November 5, 2009

The House Caucus met yesterday to review possible rule changes for the body.  With a financial session beginning in 2010, legislators had been prohibited from raising money 30 days before or after the session.  The new rule eliminates fundraising only during the actual session.  Speaker Robbie Wills supported the measure.

Talking later to reporters, Wills said he did not propose banning contributions 30 days before and after fiscal sessions because that would have posed a problem for members seeking re-election. The fiscal sessions will convene in even-numbered years — i.e., election years.

“You get the calendar out and you back out 30 days from the end of the longest fiscal session, and you’re right up on a primary election,” Wills said. “With a 30-day before-and-after blackout, it’s not an inconvenience, it’s a hardship on a sitting member of the House of Representatives.”

In a peculiar move, House members voted against a measure that would have required them to travel the least expensive route for any out-of-state travel.  Members cited the impracticality of monitoring airfare, setting up unintended consequences.  Look for the proposal to return in a revised mannder.  Ann Clemmer (R – Benton) proposed the failed measure.

This is why I will always support Gov. Beebe.

Posted by Brett Kincaid on November 5, 2009

One year later, Gov. Beebe still believes the people of Arkansas got it wrong.  And he is not afraid to say so.  I guess with a 79% approval rating you can pretty well say what you want.

Gov. Mike Beebe said today (Wednesday) he still opposes an initiated act voters approved last year banning unmarried couples from adopting or fostering children, and he thinks the law has hindered the state’s ability to recruit qualified parents.Selection of adoptive and foster parents “should be handled on a case-by-case basis based on what is the best interest of the child,” Beebe told reporters after signing a proclamation declaring November Adoption Awareness Month in the state.

The Family Council would have you believe that all kids that grow up in a “typical” household with a married mom and dad grow up to be perfect little angles.  But their executive director proves the theory wrong.  He grew up with a strong nuclear family, but Jerry Cox is still an enormous douchebag.

Lane Kiffin is growing on me.

Posted by Brett Kincaid on November 5, 2009

Kiffin

Mouth of the South

He’s brash, a little too confident, and the wins are not there to back up his mouth.  But Lane Kiffin sure does know how to talk to the media.  I can definitely see why he’s been compared to Steve Spurrier (without the wins of course).  The Florida/Tennessee rivalry may be must-see TV again soon if Kiffin’s recruitng continues to show results.  And stabs at Urban Meyer like this will only fan the flames all year long.

Pressed further on whether it was his understanding that coaches would be subject to a fine or suspension from here on out if they offered any public criticism of officials, Kiffin again couldn’t resist.

“You guys got the same memo that I got,” he said.

To the heart of the matter, SEC Commissioner Mike Slive must punnish Urban Meyer in a real way.  His comments are just mind-blowing given the missive sent down from the conference office this week.
