In their growing attempt to act like 4-year-olds, Senate Republicans boycotted today’s meeting of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. The panel was to debate a bill that would significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. They won’t even talk about it, let alone vote. Senate rules require at least 2 members of the minority party to be present in order to make a quorum.
However, an exception could allow the committee to proceed without any Republicans, according to committee staff members.Matt Dempsey, a spokesman for the committee’s Republicans, told CNN that applying the exception would be a “nuclear option” by Democrats that would worsen the panel’s already strained political climate.

Thanks to Blake Rutherford for this excellent insight into the problem Sen. Lincoln faces with health care reform. Essentially, she is DOA amongst Democrats if she sides with Republicans to filibuster. She’s not much better if she allows the vote but fails to vote with the majority.
QUESTION: If Blanche Lincoln joined Republican senators in filibustering and killing a health care bill because it had a public option, would that make you more likely or less likely to vote for her in the 2010 Democratic primary election or would it have no real affect on your vote?

Bobby Petrino sent a clear message on Saturday. Eight Razorbacks made their first starts of the season. The head coach made it clear that he intends to continue to only start players that give maximum effort in practice each week.
“We’ll continue to grade practice,” Petrino said. “We’ll really make sure guys out on field will put in a great effort in practice.”
There is little doubt that this weekend’s game against South Carolina will make a huge difference in bowl selection. In fact, losing this one may prevent the Hogs from even seeing the post season.

Arkansas is officially in the Powerball business. More than $300,000 in tickets have been sold thus far. That’s roughly $75,000
more in scholarships for Arkansas students. The multi-state lottery drawing occurs twice each week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Tomorrow’s drawing is worth $66,000,000.

I generally oppose the death penalty, but if we’re going to use it let’s do it right. These people deserve the needle. I knew this was bad long before I became a parent. Now that I have a child I want to personally watch these people suffer.
The children have never been to public school and don’t know how to read or write. They have been taken out of the home. Barber and his wife are both out of jail on bond.

The murder trial of Curtis Vance began yesterday as attorneys from both sides agreed on 8 jurors from the initial pool of 125 potentials. The process continues today as the final four jurors and 2 alternates are expected to be chosen. Vance is of course charged with raping, murdering, and robbing Anne Pressly at her Little Rock home in October 2008.

Arkansas Tea Baggers Party organizers have targeted Gov. Mike Beebe. Despite the fact that health care reform is largely a federal issue, the lunatic fringe wants to know the Governor’s view.
“As the leader of the Arkansas Democratic Party, we want to know what, specifically, you are doing to use your voice and position to stop the legislation that is moving towards passage in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives,” Porto wrote in the letter.
Someone needs to read their Constitution, as the Governor has no legal authority to stop legislation in the Congress.

NJ Governor Jon Corzine
Voters head to the polls to elect governors in Virginia and New Jersey. National analysts call it a

NJ Challenger Chris Christie
referendum on the Presdient’s popularity; sane people call it a referendum on the respective candidates. The Republican is expected to win in Virginia while the Democrat is expected to win in New Jersey. That sounds about right.
One other fun race to watch tonight, though, is in New York’s 23rd Congressional District. It is a traditionally Republican district, but the GOP candidate recently dropped from the race and endorsed the Democrat. A Conservative Party member had stolen away much of the traditional GOP support, leaving moderates with a very difficult decision to make.

Even Though Coach Poaching Should Have Its Own Season in Arkansas
Posted by Adam Butler on November 3, 2009
"I could live with Willy Robinson. I heard he likes golf, too."
given the recent exodus of coaches fleeing to South Carolina to work under the ‘Ole Ball Coach, Steve Spurrier, there doesn’t seem to be much bad blood between Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino and USC-E Defensive Coordinator(s) Lorenzo Ward and Ellis Johnson.
In fact, it almost sounds like Ward would be open to a return to the Ozarks one day. I wouldn’t mind that, at all. Ward is a rainmaker on the recruiting trail and, as a Bama alum who also coached at Virginia Tech, he knows all about building a program–both in the SEC and also at a school and city that aren’t exactly urban. Oh, and he probably picked up some special teams pointers along the way in Blacksburg.
I would welcome him back in a heartbeat. Ward left after 1 year at Arkansas because he got a sweetheart deal to become a defensive coordinator in the SEC, while also having a chance to collaborate and learn the ropes of sitting in the big chair in the coaches’ box from an old friend and mentor (Johnson).
