per ESPN (citing sources close to the situation). He had an OK career, I guess.

Schadenfreude: pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others.
I called that disappointing season, brutha, and now, others are taking notice of the career trend of the Mississippi coach (scroll down to “4 downs with the SEC). Truth be told, Mississippi fan has to admit he has a little tummy ache–and it’s not the typical, Rebel fan Southern Comfort unduced Sunday morning rumble. Mississippi fan had his cites on a warm weather BCS bowl. Instead, he will head, with 26–that’s right–26–seniors to the Mississippi coach’s apex–the Cotton Bowl.
I’d also bet a paycheck the Mississippi coach flirts with another school with an opening this offseason. Welcome to the Hootie Experience, Mississippi fan.

I take a bit of solace in the fact that you could (as Low admitted) put 5-10 in any order and have a valid argument. That said, it is worth noting that Low lives in Knoxville and covered Tennessee for 10 years.

It wasn’t long ago that the USC-W coach was whining about Jim Harbaugh and the Stanford Cardinal trying to and ultimately succeeded in hanging half a hundy on the Trojans. Now, he’s back to his previously scheduled unsportsmanlike conduct as he and UCLA Coach Rick Neuheisel compete for the title of biggest jerk on College Football’s left coast.

last night. Ryan Mallett took too long to calm down, the UA special teams were anything but, and, with a late lead and 8 players dropping into coverage, the Hogs defense gave up huge chunks of yardage in the flats on easy throws for a QB who is not a great downfield passer. You have to make him make plays in that situation. Oh, and there was this: RUN THE CLOCK!!!!!!!

Your team and your coach are who we said they were (an 8-4 disappointment that was formerly in the Top 5).
He wins games he shouldn’t (LSU) and, just when you think you are over the hump, loses games he should win (USC-E, Auburn MSU).
Oh, and he’s a QB killa. So, you have that going for you…..that and his own recruits after losing 26 seniors. History suggests it isn’t going to end well for you. Oh well, he’s your problem, now.

Steve Kragthorpe will be out of work by sundown. Tommy West is already out at Memphis. Charlie Weis will likely be done before the work week begins.
For Arkansas fans, it is time we get ready for the onslaught of rumors regarding Bobby Petrino. I suspect there is less than 1% chance that Petrino leaves. That will not stop, though, the “well placed sources” of the world to say he is interested in Job X. Given the terms of his contract, I’d say we are in no danger of losing Petrino for a season or two at least. And if he builds a consistent winner here, why would he leave? Not many places out there pay more than the UA right now.

with an “eye black’ out on Saturday. I have a Bible verse “eye black” for them: Lev 26:1
26:1 “‘Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it. I am the LORD your God.

Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin has reinstated freshman safety Janzen Jackson. Jackson had been implicated in an armed robberty that resulted in 2 other Volunteer players being kicked off the team. Now that Jackson has been cleared, he will start this weekend.
“As I’ve said before, we wanted to take our time. These were very serious allegations,” Kiffin said. “We wanted to make sure we handled this properly. After an extensive and thorough investigation by the Knoxville Police Department, they have cleared Janzen of any wrongdoing. He will join the team activities today.”
Jackson’s attorney is regarded as one of the best criminal defense attorneys in Tennessee. He is also a former UT swimmer and member of the athletics department board of advisors. Can you say pro bono?

House Speaker Robbie Wills announced Tuesday that he expects scholarship levels to be set at $5,000 yearly for full-time students at 4-year schools. Students attending 2-year schools will be eligible for $2,500 each year. The state’s new lottery is expected to bring in more than $400 million this year. Roughly 25% of total sales will be set aside for scholarships each year.
“I have yet to see anything from the Lottery Commission that would indicate to me that we could not do $5,000 scholarships for a four-year school or $2,500 dollars for a two-year school,” Wills, D-Conway, said during a hearing of the legislative lottery oversight committee.

It’s unanimous. That (a unanimous vote) has only happened 15 times in history. And, in addition to his 3 MVPs, has has 3 2nd place finishes, a third place finish and a fourth place finish, meaning he has finished in the Top 5 in 8 of the 9 years he has been in the league. (the fourth most MVP votes since the 1930s.) Imagine what he could do if his elbow wasn’t hanging by a ligament (inside joke).

Basketball Schadenfreude–UCLA Style.
Posted by Adam Butler on November 30, 2009
I hate this for the Bruins. I really do. It might not be Morgan St., East Tenn St. and South Alabama, but a 2-4 start with losses to Cal St. Fullerton, Portland, Butler and Long Beach State and a SEVENTH PLACE finish in the 76 Classic Tournament would have UCLA fans in an uproar if they weren’t the country’s biggest fair-weather basketball fans.
