I’m done with Florida after this post. We finally got some degree of “accountability” from the SEC office today. Coach Petrino took about as much comfort in that statement as you would imagine.
“People know the first amendment when it comes to football coaches and officials does not apply.”
On to Mississippi

I applaud his commentary.
If you’re not a Florida fan (and even if you are a Florida fan), you can’t feel good about the two 15-yard penalties called against Arkansas on the Gators’ game-tying drive in the fourth quarter.
The pass interference call on Arkansas cornerback Ramon Broadway was bad enough, but the personal foul penalty on defensive tackle Malcolm Sheppard was completely bogus. That’s one of those calls that drives coaches crazy.
Let the players on the field decide the game.
It’s the fourth quarter and one team’s driving. The official in that situation simply has to show some discretion there.
For what it’s worth, the crew that worked the Arkansas-Florida game was the same crew that worked the Georgia-LSU game when all the controversy flared up about the excessive celebration penalty on A.J. Green. Afterward, Rogers Redding, the SEC’s coordinator of officials, came out and said there was nothing on the tape that he saw that warranted a penalty being called on Green.

Bret With One T is right–the Arkansas D earned the turnovers. The Arkansas D lit up College Football Baby Jesus. Why all of a sudden should we feel guilty about that? It’s a big part of the game–every week. It was crucial that the Hogs win the turnover battle if they were gonna have any hope of beating Florida and the refs in The Swamp…and it happened. Arkansas was the more aggressive, physical team, and on that day was the better team on the field and deserved a fair shake.

“Yeah, the refs stunk, but we had plenty of chances to win–it’s our own fault” I may lose it.
Of course we had chances–the same could be said for every game. But Florida had chances, too, and missed them. And they were given a much better chance to win because of some blatantly bad calls. Why should the Hogs have to be perfect (or near) and if not, then the loss is on them when they were clearly jobbed.
You should not be forced to outplay the #1 team by 2-3 TDs in order to win simply because they were the Number 1 team in the country. And, I still hate Tebow and am glad we nailed him all day. It will be good practice for him when he is getting hit on every play in the NFL as a fullback or H-back.

My, my how things change. The movement began a few weeks ago, we were almost split last week, and now Alabama has taken over the #1 spot in the Select 17.
Just about every voter agrees that we have 3 teams that have shown themselves to be fighting for the top spot. There are 4-5 teams that could make a case in the second half of the season. Other than that, you can put all the other teams in a hat and pull ‘em out to finish your ballot. In fact, I may just do that next week.

ESPN.com’s Chris Low has his weekly power rankings up. Like many others in the country, Low has moved Alabama ahead of Florida for the top spot.
2. Florida: Tim Tebow and a couple of generous penalties saved the Gators (6-0, 4-0) in their 23-20 escape at home against Arkansas. There are some warning signs on offense, and Tebow was sacked six times. But given the chance to win the game in the fourth quarter, Tebow got it done … again.
Meanwhile the Hogs have a chance to move into the upper half this week.
6. Arkansas: The Hogs (3-3, 1-3) don’t have a glistening record, but two of their losses were to the top two-ranked teams in the country, most recently Florida. Arkansas’ defense has made tremendous improvement, which makes this a dangerous club the rest of the way. The Hogs probably deserved better at the Swamp and were the victim of a couple of bad calls.
