Urban Meyer and Lane Kiffin Told to Cool It–Again

Posted by Adam Butler on September 23, 2009

by Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive.

I must admit that I am tiring of Kiffin’s schtick, but he got a pretty good zinger in this time, after Meyer reinitiated there spat by questioning his play calling, and bemoaning a flu bug that hit the Gators recently.  From the article on usatoday.com

The war of words heated up again Sunday after the No. 1 Gators’ closer-than-expected 23-13 victory in Gainesville. Meyer first said the Volunteers played to keep the score close instead of to win. He then said key players on his team had been battling the flu. Kiffin defended his game plan and, in answer to a question about whether he worried about the flu, sent a salvo toward Meyer: “I don’t know. I guess we’ll wait, and after we’re not excited about a performance, we’ll tell you everybody was sick.”

I agree with Don Kausler Jr. of The Birmingham News. It isn’t possible.

Petrino v. Saban

Posted by Adam Butler on September 23, 2009

Kevin Scarbinsky of The Birmingham News is right–it’s an intriguing matchup

If you’re looking for a coaching rivalry that’s more than hot air, keep your eye on what happens Saturday in Tuscaloosa and beyond. Saban vs. Petrino has the potential to make Meyer vs. Kiffin look like a tickle fight.

(That’s funny–I already thought Kiffin v. Urban looked like a love fest.)

But, one can’t help but think the question of the the day will be whether Arkansas’ Defensive Coordinator  is Wee Willy Robinson or Slick Willy Robinson on Saturday afternoon.

A study finds that NCAA probation and other penalties are meted out less often to BCS schools.  Ironically, this article was published in The Birmingham News. It was not, however, written by Albert Means.

Arkansas true freshman walkon punter Dylan Breeding, a Hoover, AL native, will be coming home to make his first start in his home state.  If he punts like he did last Saturday, it may be his last.  Do they stop you at the Bama state line and force you to get the Emo Bowl haircut if you are under the age of 25?

A Kentucky high school football coach who was found not guilty of criminal charges relating to the death of a 15-year old player is not apologizing…..undoubtedly at the advice of his attorney, who should be braced for a civil suit.  I understand that….the national media tour? Not so much.

Kentucky’s Trevard Lindley is good.  He will have to be omniscent, all-powerful and all-lnowing to defend against College Football Baby Jesus, Tim Tebow.

Joel Piniero notched his 15th win last night, reducing the St. Louis Cardinals’ magic number to 2.  They could clinch the NL Central Division with a win tonight and a loss by the Chicago Cubs.  That’s not a suprising result for a Cubs organization whose big free agent acquisition in the offseason, veteran outfielder and hot head, Milton Bradley, lets his mommy do his talking.

Curt Schilling won’t run for the vacant Senate seat that was held by Ted Kennedy.  I have little doubt he will quickly find an avevenue whereby he can continue to be a self-important blowhard (yeah, I blog AND I called him self-important) who spouts his opinions on everything incessantly.

President Obama called for a new era in world relations, today.

The Arkansas Court of Appeals upheld the murder conviction of a Camden juvenile who was convicted of killing his 11-year old sister when he was 12 years old.

In other grisly, Camden-related news, a worker at a paper recycling facility in that city was crushed to death in a paper compactor, today.

The Arkansas Lottery intends to give us all false hope of a huge windfall, entertain adults.

Pulaski County Prosecutors are dismissing misdemeanor charges against a Maumelle woman relating to her infant son’s death.  The decision was made following a Court of Appeals ruling granting her a new trial because Maumelle police erred during their investigation.
