Remember when we told you that the gender of women’s 800 meter world champion Caster Semenya of South Africa was being questioned? Well, those questions have been answered, sort of.

Whether it’s all his fault or not, that’s the moniker our friends at Arkansas Sports 360 gave UA Basketball coach John Pelphrey, who is on the proverbial hot seat, and isn’t doing himself any favors by giving an ESPN reporter an exclusive interview of sorts. thereby alienating the local media.
UPDATE — Coach Pelfrey issued a brief statement today regarding his basketball program. It reads in part:
“We will continue to emphasize to our student-athletes that as members of the Razorback program they have a responsibility to conduct themselves and represent our University and our basketball program in an appropriate manner.”
Continue? Whatever you’re doing, coach, it’s not working.
UPDATE II — Point guard Courtney Forston has thrust himself into the basketball mess. Reports out of Fayetteville now state the the sophomore could face discipline for a Twitter update he posted, possibly referencing the alleged rape of a female student.
“In the Monday post, Fortson wrote: ‘Im gettin it at workouts like a dude who doesnt understand the word no from a drunk girl lol.’”
Disappointment does not come nearly close enough to describe my feelings toward the hoops program right now. Disgust may be more accurate.
Adam and Brett both worked on this piece.

With the NFL season upon us, it only seems fair that we put up some preseason picks. Obviously we focus mostly on the college game, but the NFL season is great for two reasons: 1) Fantasy Football and 2) Gambling. If you are not into one of those things, then you probably have no use for the NFL. I will post my NFL picks for Week 1 tomorrow. For tonight, I’m taking Tennessee and the points.

| Road | Home | Line | Adam | Brett |
| Clemson | Georgia Tech | GTU -4.5 | Ga Tech | Ga Tech |
| BK Says: The Georgia Tech triple-option is hard to stop. Dwyer could enter the Heisman race with Bradford out. | ||||
| Georgia Tech 31, Clemson 20 | ||||
| North Carolina | Connecticut | UNC -3.5 | UNC | U Conn |
| BK Says: I love home ‘dogs. North Carolina won ugly at home while U Conn grinded on the road for a win in Week 1. | ||||
| Connecticut 28, North Carolina 20 | ||||
| Iowa | Iowa St. | Iowa -7 | Iowa | Iowa St. |
| BK Says: Iowa looks very shaky. Iowa St. pulled out a win last week and has home field advantage. | ||||
| Iowa St. 17, Iowa 12 | ||||
| Syracuse | Penn St. | PSU -28 | Penn St. | Syracuse |
| BK Says: Greg Paulus put his team on his back last week and almost won. PSU has a hard time covering big spreads at home. | ||||
| Penn St. 41, Syracuse 14 | ||||
| Arkansas St. | Nebraska | NU -24 | Nebraska | Arkansas St. |
| BK Says: Arkansas St. starters can play at this level. Nebraska will win by 15. | ||||
| Nebraska 40, Arkansas St. 20 | ||||
| Notre Dame | Michigan | ND -4.5 | Notre Dame | Notre Dame |
| BK Says: Notre Dame looked dominant against Nevada. | ||||
| Notre Dame 38, Michigan 17 | ||||
| TCU | Virginia | TCU -12 | TCU | TCU |
| BK Says: UVA lost to Bill & Mary last week. TCU has a suffocating defense. | ||||
| TCU 24, Virginia 3 | ||||
| Houston | Oklahoma St. | OSU -15.5 | Houston | Houston |
| BK Says: Classic letdown game. OSU likely wins (not a dead solid lock) in a shootout. | ||||
| Oklahoma St. 38, Houston 31 | ||||
| Vanderbilt | LSU | LSU -14 | LSU | Vandy |
| BK Says: I love Vanderbilt early, especially after watching Locker eat up the LSU defense last week. | ||||
| LSU 27, Vandy 20 | ||||
| South Carolina | Georgia | UGA -7.5 | Georgia | So Carolina |
| BK Says: It is tempting to take UGA at home, but South Carolina’s defense looked tremendous last week. | ||||
| South Carolina 17, Georgia 13 | ||||
| USC | Ohio St. | USC -6 | USC | Ohio St. |
| BK Says: I just can’t take a freshman QB on the road. Give me a good OSU team at home getting points. | ||||
| Ohio St. 31, USC 28 | ||||
| UCLA | Tennessee | UT -9 | UCLA | UCLA |
| BK Says: Toughest game to pick for me this week. Smells like a close game, so I’ll take the points. | ||||
| Tennessee 28, UCLA 20 | ||||
| Mississippi St. | Auburn | AU -14.5 | Miss St. | Auburn |
| BK Says: Auburn’s defense looked like a Gene Chizik defense last week. I’ll lay the points as Auburn looks to make a statement. | ||||
| Auburn 31, Miss. St. 10 | ||||

American teen sensation Melanie Oudin saw her magical run at Flushing Meadows come to an end last night in the quarterfinals.
St. Louis showed why it’s the class of the National League yesterday as Adam Wainwright picked up his 18th win, and Albert Pujols homered twice.

The Denver Broncos must be trying to prove that they are (all of a sudden) the worst run franchise in the NFL. What the hell happened?

Special teams problems are not unique to Arkansas. South Carolina needs to fine tune its kicking game before this weekend.

As we reported, followed, drove into the ground yesterday, county officials will not charge three U of A student athletes with sexual assault based on a lack of evidence. Everyone seems to agree that they are guilty of being utterly reckless.

The President received high marks from voters last night. The bad news for him: President Clinton received a similar bounce.
Rep. Joe Wilson (R – SC) tried to steal the show last night by yelling at the President. I won’t go all high and mighty like a number of people have. Suffice it to say, everyone expects a certain amount of decorum in the House. Rep. Wilson failed to meet that expectation. He also broke House rules.
Another GOPer has a mistress, forcing his resignation from the Californis State Assembly. Do they hand out mistresses once you join the Republican Party?
