Billy Wagner is headed to Boston.  The last-minute deal includes two players to be named later from the Boston farm system.  As you may recall, Boston closer Jonathan Papelbon has not been looking forward to this possibility.  Over the years I have learned to trust Theo, but this seems risky at best.

I am speechless. I am literally without speech.

Poll numbers released today indicate less than half of Arkansans believe the President was born in this country.  If that is not terrifying enough, more than half of those surveyed (55%) prefer RUSH LIMBAUGH’s plan for American to that of the President.  That despite an approval rating for Rush at only 44% — still higher than President Obama’s 40% approval.

Overall Obama’s approval rating is a negative 40/56 spread, headed in the wrong direction since it was a positive 47/45 back when PPP surveyed the state in March. Obama has the approval of 72% of Democrats, 30% of independents, and 9% of Republicans.

Stupefying.  More here from Max Brantley.

Colorado stayed late and finished off San Francisco to take a 4-game lead in the NL Wild Card race.  A three-game set with Los Angeles this week could vault the Rockies to the top of the NL West.

Boston pounded its way to a win over the White Sox.  Tampa kept pace by pummeling Roy Haladay and Toronto.

Johan Santana may need elbow surgery

Philip Rivers signed a huge extension with the San Diego Chargers.

Plaxico is trying to explain what happened.  I just don’t get it.

If you want to kill Bambi in Arkansas this year, you should probably check the new rules.  Looks like it’ll be less of a hassle.

The Razorbacks have had two days off after fall camp broke.  They will return to the field this afternoon.

Ronnie Wingo, perhaps the most heralded 2009 recruit, has adjusted well to life as a Razorback.

Tommy Tubberville was in Little Rock yesterday to kick off the 2009 season of the Little Rock Touchdown Club.  Coach Bobby Petrino will address the group next week.

Not only is Clifton Geathers suspended because of his off-the-field altercation last week, he also is injured as a result of it.

Tim Tebow touched his own back, and he is now fine.

Tennessee has named Jonathan Crompton its starter for the season opener.

Dan Mullen is not just the head coach, but he is also Mississippi State’s special teams coach.

Beer will be on sale at the Memphis/Mississippi game on September 6th.  If you drink enough, perhaps you’ll forget you’re at a Memphis/Mississippi game.

Julio Jones may be the biggest star in Alabama.

Auburn’s Eric Smith appears to be in serious trouble with the law.

John Brummett explores just what the hell state Sen. Bob Johnson may be thinking.

Like many growing commercial areas, North Little Rock is considering a new sign ordinance.  It’s a good thing, too.  The last thing you want is for your town to look like Springdale.

Falling sales tax revenues continue to show the northwest Arkansas is just as vulnerable as the rest of us to this recession.

I suspect this story won’t go away any time soon.

Ben Bernanke is expected to be reappointed to his post as Federal Reserve Chairman.

The feds sure do love to scare the hell out of us.  I’m beginning to think the H1N1 alerts have replaced the Bush Administration’s terror alerts.

I love it when the actors get involved.

I think I’ve said this (or some variant) before:  Give meth heads some direction, and we’ll solve any national crisis.  These guys are clever.

After three autopsies and pressure from the family, Michael Jackson’s death has been ruled a homicide.  I suspect Bubbles.
