Bloghawgs.com is Vindicated!!!!

Posted by Adam Butler on August 20, 2009

We picked the Hogs to go 8-4, beat Mississippi and go to the Cotton Bowl and we were biased.

We picked Mississippi to struggle as a frontrunner despite a favorable schedule, and go 8-4 with a trip to the Chick Fil A Bowl, and we were Houston Nutt haters.

We picked Alabama to overcome the loss of Sarah Jessica Parker Wilson and Andre Smith and go to the Sugar Bowl.

We picked UGA to the Outback, USC-E to the Music City Bowl, and Auburn to Shrevport.

We picked Florida to win the SEC Championship Game and go to the BCS Title Game and…..OK, everyone did that.

And now, just a  few days later, who is in virtual lock step with us and has validated us in a fulfilling way?  Was it another fledgling Razorback obsessed blog? Nope.

It’s Mark Bradley of the Atlanta Journal Constitution–aka “Rip Bobby Petrino to Shreds Central”.  I guess he is just a Hog-lovin’, Mississippi/Houston Nutt hatin’ Hog hack.

“The Voice” of Razorback Hoops, Mike Nail,

Posted by Adam Butler on August 20, 2009

will retire after the coming 2010 season, per a UA news release.

He, along with Paul Eells, was one of the voices of my youth.  It is sad to see him go, in a way, but probably good timing.  I wonder who will replace him.  I seriously doubt they will have Chuck Barrett do all 3 major (revenue) sports.  I am sure KATV’s Scott Inman will get a long look.  He certainly has good pipes–I am just not sure about his basketball (or football) pedigree, although I have been told it’s better than most would expect from a news anchor.

To Pee, or Not to Pee, That is the Question.

Posted by Adam Butler on August 20, 2009

some experts in Brazil are urging citizens to conserve water by………peeing in the shower.  That certainly puts a whole new shade on going green.

Former Hogs Sharpshooter Pat Bradley,

Posted by Adam Butler on August 20, 2009

always a fan favorite known for draining shots in guy’s mugs, had to pose for his own mug shot this morning.  He was arrested for DWI by Fayetteville Police early this morning, per Arkansas360.com.

Bradley, an All-SEC pick in 1998 and 1999, has parlayed his popularity into a daily co-hosting gig on “The Zone”, a sports radio show generated out of Little Rock’s 103.7 The Buzz (insert bad joke here) and its monster signal.  Pat plays the zany, “party guy” role on the show, and station, for that matter, but he has ALLEGEDLY ALLEGEDLY ALLEGEDLY committed a personal party foul behind the wheel.

No Dick’s for Vick

Posted by Adam Butler on August 20, 2009

Get your heads out of the gutter….I am not talking about some Michael Vick prison story.  Dick’s Sporting Goods, the largest publicly traded U.S. sporting goods store, says it won’t carry Michael Vick jerseys.

Plaxico to Jail

Posted by Brett Kincaid on August 20, 2009

Two years for the former NY Giants wide receiver.  Someday people will learn that there is no benefit to bringing a handgun to the party.

Pre-Season Select 17

Posted by Brett Kincaid on August 20, 2009

Each Monday during the season we will release our Select 17.  This is our little attempt to provide yet another voice to the lingering debate over who has the best team in college football.  Obviously our voice will be far superior to anyone else’s.  Adam and I have pulled together 5 other football minds to join ours, all of whom spend far too much time thinking about college football.  We’ll update these rankings as needed before the season starts, but you can count on a new poll each Monday morning.  We will announce it every week on The Jon Williams Morning Show (93.3 The Eagle, KIGL-FM) in northwest Arkansas around 8:00am.

Rank Team Total
1 Florida (7) 119
2 Texas 109

5 Alabama 90
6 Ohio State 78
7 Penn State 76
8 Oklahoma State 64
9 Virginia Tech 56
10 LSU 52
11 Mississippi 46

Memphis officially has not been to a Final Four.  Word comes today that Tiger High must vacate its wins from 2007-2008 including it’s run to the NCAA Tournament Championship Game.  Geoff Calkins has a great piece today that highlights the sordid past of John Calipari.  People often forget his UMass team in 1996 also had to officially vacate its Final Four appearance.

Boston moved back into the AL Wild Card lead with a win over Toronto and a Texas loss to Minnesota.

It was a good day for Cardinal fans after John Smoltz’s signing followed by a late-night win in L.A.

Plaxico Burress will be back in court today for his arraignment.  What a moron.

Predator and Predator II are now part-owners of the Miami Dolphins.

The Cowboys open Jerry World on Friday night.  This SI piece really highlights just how majestic this place really is.

Ryan Mallett continues to impress during the Razorbacks’ fall camp.

Arkansas’ recruiting haul in the defensive backfield needs to pay dividends early.

Tennessee has already filed an appeal to an NCAA ruling on Bryce Brown.  I guess that tells us the result of the sealed investigation.

How do you get arrested during fall camp?

Kodi Burns’ role may be more of Slash than WR or QB.

Mississippi freshman Tig Barksdale is out indefinitely.

Willie Martinez faces his most crucial year as a defensive coordinator.

LSU cornerback Chris Hawkins hopes to erase the memories of last season.

The South Carolina offense was clicking in last night’s scrimmage.

I’ve always wondered why Bank of the Ozarks is based in Little Rock.  I guess maybe so they could be the lottery’s bank?

Here is a perfect example of why people don’t like bureacracy:  After years of discussion and planning, the Highway Commission finally voted to apply for federal money that will only help to partially fund a road.

Why in the world would you publicize a “listening tour” but not allow anyone to cover it?  It’s a bad day for your organization when you make the Republican Party of Arkansas look open and transparent.

According to US News & World Report, the University of Arkansas remains an upper-tier school for the third year in a row.

Pine Bluff residents continue their efforts to organize a bid for a KIPP School.

A criminal in Bryant has a unique method.  Let’s hope police catch this guy soon.

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin recently released her list of gifts received while serving in government.
