the review is mini–the movie is huge, at least that’s what Gillispie, a Bloghawgs reader and friend, thinks. This got buried under a post about Steven Tyler from several days ago, so I thought I would repost it here:
I don’t know who Aerosmith is, but I strongly suggest that everyone needs to see The Hurt Locker, the new Iraq war film helmed by director Katherine Bigelow (of Point Break fame). Not only is it hands down the best movie made about this war, it is for my money the most effective war movie since Platoon. The film is about a team of Army bomb techs dealing with IEDs, and it’s as suspenseful as any movie I’ve seen in recent years. It’s gruesome, terrifying, heartbreaking, and a shoe-in for an Oscar nod.

Michael Vick to Philly is low risk for the Eagles and could be just what they need. He comes cheap by NFL standards, won’t be asked to do too much early (maybe play a VERY dangerous Wildcat Offense QB) and will be accepted by the Philly fans IF he makes big plays. The one risk for him is that an aging Donovan McNabb gets hurt again, and he is rushed in action before he is ready. We know the Philly fans will turn quickly if that happens. They booed McNabb when he was drafted, and Michael Irvin when he suffered a career/life threatening injury. They once booed Santa Claus, and he loves animals. Heck they even booed Sarah Palin….OK that one was alright.
I am not sure what I think our leaders should do to address the country’s health care problem, but I would love for it to start with 1) A consensus that there is a problem and 2) a tacit agreement to cut out all the brow beating on both sides and work toward a common goal.
Try the Starving Artist Cafe in North Little Rock–I really like it(don’t tell my wife–she will want to go every day). The food is great, the atmosphere is nice, and they allow my kid to act like a happy Chucky Doll.
While many of us have been counting down the days to the kickoff of the college football season, another date that has long been circled on the calendar, September 29th, approaches, too. That’s they day the Dave Matthews Band will play at North Little Rock’s Dickey-Stephens Park–literally a stone’s throw from my office. We have had our tickets since before they went on sale to the public, and I plan on getting there early and enjoying Ramblin’ Man Greg Allman, too. Anyone know a good babysitter?
I bought an iPhone today. I have a feeling my life may never be the same again. Feel free to email me cool, free app ideas. I already have the Pandora Radio one and Crack, errrr Facebook. I’m over Facebook, though. It is so spring of ’09.
as their teams square off in Oakland. Dmac has already popped a 45-yard run (and has 63 yards on 4 carries at the start of the 2nd quarter). Felix, who is still battling a toe injury, has 1 carry for 14 yards. Fargas got the start ahead of DMac, again confirming that he has compromising photos of Tom Cable and Al Davis.
Eagles–$1.6 million in Year 1 with an option for a 2nd Year at $5.2 million. In his interview with James Brown set to air on “60 Minutes” Sunday, he was, as expected, remorseful.
Malcolm Sheppard will be a watched young man this fall. The senior defensive lineman has been added to the Bednarik Award watch list for 2009. The Bednarik Award goes annually to the nation’s top defender, as judged by voters with the Maxwell Football Club.
The funny thing is that the guys I tailgate with in Fayetteville (you know who you are) actually ARE holding a “practice tailgate” in a few weeks to prepare for the upcoming season.
