A tip of the hat to The Tolbert Report for its concise summary of lotto news. Rep. Jonathan Dismang (R-Beebe) requested an evaluation of the Arkansas lottery employees salaries as compared to other states. Perhaps ol’ Ernie P. is not so crazy
afterall. I still question, though, his insistence of wearing his sunglasses around his neck. If a man is likely to lose his specs that easily, should he really be in charge of a multi-million dollar state program? If he were on a boat or coaching football, I’d be okay with it. I think it is safe to go ahead and take them off completely if you’re in the capitol, though.

ESPN Insider?
Posted by Brett Kincaid on July 22, 2009
There is a new twist in the Erin Andrews video scandal. The New York Daily News reports that a felow ESPN employee may be the culprit. It is hard to imagine just how embarrassing this must be for her, but to know it may have been done by a co-worker must turn embarrassment to rage.
I have a well-documented crush on Erin Andrews, which makes me like just about every other male (gay or straight) in the America. As the father of a daughter, this story has made me genuinely angry. The thought that this may have been done by someone she knows and with whom she has a relationship is frightening.

Have you no decency, sir?
Posted by Brett Kincaid on July 22, 2009
Here we go again. First it was the remarkable meltdown at a town hall meeting in Deleware with Congressman Mike Castle (DE – R). Now we get another mouth-breather, Congressman John Campbell (CA – R), promoting a bill that requires candidates to produce a birth certificate.
I do not have a problem on premise. The Constitution requires a President to be born in the United States. What bothers me is the purely political nature of these bills. President Obama is an American citizen. He was born in Hawai’i. If you prove he was not, I’ll eat my words. But that won’t happen, because he was born in the United States.

Mediocrity Rewarded
Posted by Brett Kincaid on July 22, 2009
How quickly do you think you would receive a raise and long-term contract if you ultimately succeeded at work 57% of the time.
You may do all the little things right, but assume you fail at major presentations, locking down new clients, or winning at trial more than 40% of the time. If your work product resembles this scenario, you need to move to Iowa! Coach Kirk Ferentz must have compromising pictures of the Hawkeye AD.
Now, I’ve spent time in Iowa. One of my best friends is from Iowa. It is damn cold there. Perhaps they must reward an average performer if they want to avoid complete irrelevance.

Snail’s Pace Congress
Posted by Brett Kincaid on July 22, 2009
Harold Meyerson takes the Blue Dogs to task over their lack of movement on health care reform. Most rational people are comfortable with a cautious approach to change. We all generally act that way in our own lives. Occassionally, though, a leap of

Congressman Mike Ross (AR-4)
faith is required. I’m looking at you, Congressman Ross. Let’s get moving toward a reasonable solution that allows each American to be covered.

Blog Hawgs — The Launch
Posted by Brett Kincaid on July 22, 2009
So my partner in crime, Adam Butler, and I were sitting at Reno’s in North Little Rock the other day solving the world’s problems. As the hours passed and our elbows bent more often, we decided what the world really needs more than anything is another blog. The longer we stayed the better the idea sounded. So was born Blog Hawgs.
In looking at the local blogosphere, we found a lot of great stuff. What we did not find was a user-friendly format that covers all the things we like most. Lots of places address specific issues with great insight and are quite entertaining. Yet nothing appealed to our disproportionate love for sports and politics on the same site. Blog Hawgs is our attempt to fill that void — sports, politics, pop culture…and other stuff. While we will certainly cover lots of sports (especially in the fall), we are both committed to hitting lots of topics daily. Our favorite blogs, websites, and other time-wasters are all listed on the left side of the blog. For those of you who just cannot get enough, you can subscribe to our RSS feed on the right.
If you are looking for deep policy discussions, you have found the wrong page. Our goal here at Blog Hawgs is to keep the discussions light and fun. We encourage debate, but let’s keep it civil. The only time it is allowable to turn ugly is when discussing the numerous deficiencies of other SEC schools or the University of Texas. At that point your disdain is welcome. Just try to keep it clean, please.
As you’ll see in the posts below, we try to give a flavor of what you can expect daily. Lots of links to different stories with a few editorial comments. Basically if we find anyting funny, intriguing, or thought-provoking we will link that story and provide a forum for discussion. You can also expect weekly editorial pieces from the two monkeys running this zoo.
Our first “big announcement” is the upcoming SEC preview. We’ll run down all 12 SEC football teams as everyone gears up for the opening of fall camp. Adam will unveil his analysis of Ole Miss tomorrow. What better way to kick things off than squashing the hopes of unsuspecting Rebel fans? As Adam is fond of saying, “We’ve seen this movie before. We know how it ends.”
With that, we bid you welcome to Blog Hawgs.
